Henry Gray 1839-
Henry was born at
Barnstone in Nottinghamshire in 1839. In 1851 the family were living at Thorpe
Arnold. By 1881 Henry was married to Elizabeth, a Dressmaker born in 1840 at
Melton Mowbray and had three children, all born at Melton Mowbray: Mary J Gray
who was born in 1860; John Henry 1867 and Annie 1879. Henry was employed as a
Shoemaker and was living at King Street Melton Mowbray.

Sarah Gray 1839-
Sarah, according to Census Records, was born in
1839 at Gretton in Northamptonshire which was the birthplace of her mother Ann.
John Gray 1843-
John was born on 22nd of November at Gooseberry
Square (now the Mill Street Carpark) Melton Mowbray and baptised at the Melton
Parish Church on the 24th December 1843.
On the 16th of April 1863 he was
married by Banns at Melton Parish Church to Mary Jane Goodacre who was born in
1846. She was the daughter of the late William Goodacre of Holwell, Melton
Mowbray.
In 1871 the family were living at Syston Street in Leicester and
there were three children: Ann Jane born 1864; Lily 1868; and William 1870. In
the following years three more children were born: John 1873; George 1876 and
Sarah Elizabeth 1878. Lily, William, John and George were all baptised on 14
November 1877.
Edward Gray 1846-
Edward was born at Melton Mowbray and baptised
at the Melton Parish Church on the 27th January 1846.
William Gray 1847-1915
William was born at Melton Mowbray in 1847
and baptised at the Melton Parish Church on the 4th of January 1852. He married
Elizabeth Burdett of Weldon in Northamptonshire which is the next village to
Gretton where his mother was born. Could it be that he perhaps met his future
wife whilst on a visit to his mothers relatives? In 1881 he was living at 22
Sarah Street in Leicester with his four children and was employed as a
Platelayer on the railway. Most of their married life was spent at 32 Clipstone
Street Leicester. William died at the age of 68 and was buried on 23rd June
1915, his wife Elizabeth died aged 73 in 1919. They are both buried in Welford
Road Cemetery in Plot No. P/314
George Gray 1851-
George was born at Melton Mowbray and baptised
at the Melton Parish Church on the 13th of May 1851.
Henry Gray 1852-
Henry was born at Melton Mowbray and baptised at
the Melton Parish Church on the 17th of October 1852. He was employed as a
Blacksmith and was married to Jane, a Dressmaker of Warboys, Huntingdon who was
born in 1852. In 1881 they were living in the Parish of St. Margarets at 23
Marston Street Leicester. Living with them at that time was their Niece Jane A
Gray, who was the daughter of Henry's brother John and was working as a Fancy
Hand in the Textile industry.
Mary Elizabeth Gray 1855-
Mary was born in 1855 at Melton Mowbray.
She married Pawnbroker Joseph Hart of Oxendon. Northamptonshire and they had a
child James Harry Hart who was born in Leicester in 1880. At the time of the
1881 Census they were living at 24 Friars Causway Leicester.
Fanny Gray 1857-
The IGI records a Christening on 19 October 1857
at Melton Mowbray Parish Church but no other details have come to light so far.

Thomas Gray 1854-
In 1871 Thomas was working as a farm servant to
John Benskin of Main Street Burton Lazars. Within the next two years he had
married Mary from Mountsorrel and they had a daughter Mary who was born at
Kegworth, Leicestershire in 1873. In the following years they had four more
children: John,born in 1875 at Kegworth; Arthur, 1877 at Kegworth; Lilley, 1879
at Melton Mowbray and Florence, born in 1881 at Kegworth. At the time of the
1881 Census they were living at Belgrave Terrace, Long Eaton in Derbyshire.
Thomas was working as a Labourer.
Arthur Gray 1856-
Arthur was born in 1856 at Melton Mowbray, in
1871 he was working as a Farm Servant to John Wright at Pickwell Lodge.
By
1881 he had married Mary, who was born in 1857, from Kegworth in Leicestershire
and they had two children: John William born 1878 and Eliza who was eleven
months old, both born at Notton. Arthur was working on the Railway at Notton
Station in York.
John Gray 1859-
John married Amelia Roebuck of Hoby and in 1881
was living at Andersons Yard with his wife and two children: one year old Arthur
James Gray and six months old Annie Elizabeth. Amelia's sister Annie Roebuck was
also living with them at the time.
Edward Gray 1860-
In 1881 Edward was living with his parents at
Andersons Yard, King Street Melton Mowbray and was employed as a Horse
Driver
Joseph Gray 1862-
In 1881 Joseph was living with his parents at
Andersons Yard, King Street Melton Mowbray and was working as a
Shoemaker.

In 1852 Mr J Gray along with Mr Nathaniel Whitchurch were appointed
Townwardens for two years. It is probable that he would have been the Timber
Merchant of 57 Burton End.
In 1859 the Melton Rifle Volunteers were first formed and in
January 1860 H Gray became a member
