Kenneth Randolph Beechey 1928-1928
Kenneth Beechey was born on 26 May 1928 at 281 Green Lane Road Leicester but only survived a few weeks.
Brenda Beechey 1938-
Brenda Beechey was born in 1938, is married to Ken Price
and they live in Leicester. They have four children:
Kevin Price, who is married to Yvett Hartshorn, they have two children James and
Adam; Craig Price; Ian Price who is married to Louise Stockton; and Kenny
Price.
Hugh Brian McNeill 1933-
Brian McNeill was born on 9 May 1933 at Melton Mowbray,
he attended school at the Franciscan Convent, Melton Modern Boys and Melton
Technical College.
He started an apprenticeship with the newly nationalised, East
Midlands Electricity Board and upon completion joined the RAF for a four year
term which he completed as a Radar Fitter.
Following demob in 1958 he worked as a maintenance electrician
at the Midland Woodworking Co. for six years and then moved with the former
works manager when he founded his own company, Frank Bailey Joinery Ltd.
Following the death of the owner the company folded up in 1965 and he was made
redundant.
He started working for himself and in 1996 sold the firm
(McNeill Electrical) to Ralco Electrical Ltd of Leicester.
During his apprenticeship he became active in the trade union
movement and was the chairman of the Melton Mowbray branch of the EETPU a
position he held for 42 Years (1960-2002). He was also active in the Labour Party
and twice stood unsuccessfully as a candidate in the local UDC elections (1965
& 1966).
In 1954 he was a founder member of the College Students
Association and served as a member of the College Building Advisory Committee as
a Trade Union nominee in 1964. In 1961 he was elected Secretary of the Trades
Council, a position he held until 1966. In 1973 he was appointed by the
Secretary of State for Consumer Affairs to the East Midlands Electricity
Consultative Council and later the Office of Electricity Regulation resigning in
1992.
He married Shirley Hopkins of Melton Mowbray on 13 Oct. 1962 and
they were divorced in 1985 they have two girls: Angela and Christine.
Shirley was born on 24 Feb. 1939 the daughter of Frank Hopkins
and Violet Castle, both of Chipping Norton Oxfordshire
He married Lynne Pugh on 12 May 1988 and they have two children
Sharon (stepdaughter) and Benjamin.
Lynne was born on 7 Oct. 1956 and is the daughter of Dan L. Pugh
of Little Dewchurch, a local poet, and Doris Wheatcroft of Melton
Mowbray.
Frederick Alan McNeill 1934-
Alan McNeill was born on 11 Jul. 1934 and attended school
at the Franciscan Convent and Melton Modern Boys. He was apprenticed to E. Hart
& Son Builders of Melton Mowbray as a Joiner.
Called up for National Service in 1956 he joined the RAF and was
stationed at Sylt, in Germany, at the end of which he returned to E Hart &
Son in 1959 and stayed with them until the firm closed in ???He worked for
Boulton & Paul (Midland Woodworking Co.) as an Inspector and was made
redundant in 1992.
A keen sportsman he was instrumental in reviving the Welby Lane
Football Club in the early 1960's and made the goal post nets by hand in the
back garden at Dorothy Avenue.
He is married to Muriel Holvey of Somerby and they have two
girls: Elizabeth and Wendy.
Muriel was born on 14 Oct. 1938 and is the daughter of Somerby
Farmer Cyril Holvey and Freda A Brown of Somerby. Prior to her marriage she
worked at PERA and later as a secretary in the Planning Department of Melton
Borough Council.
Mary Sheila McNeill 1936-
Sheila McNeill was born on 13 Aug. 1936 at Melton
Mowbray, she attended the Franciscan Convent School for the whole of her
education and worked for the Midland Woodworking Co. until her marriage.
Following her marriage to Frank Ludford of Coventry on 29 Sept.
1956 they moved to Rugby and for a time she was employed by British Rail at
their Rugby office.
Frank was born on 30 Jun. 1935 at Coventry. He completed his
national service with the Army where he was a dog handler in 1956 and died in
1992 following a heart attack.
They had five children: Valerie, Neil, Veronica, Lloyd and
Declan.
Anthony Colin McNeill 1937-
Colin McNeill was born on 15 Nov. 1937 at Melton Mowbray,
educated at the Franciscan Convent School and the Modern Boys School he
completed an apprenticeship as a plumber in 1958 when he was called up for
National Service with the RAF.
In 1955 he served as a committee member on the Melton Swimming
Baths Association, an organisation set up to provide a swimming baths for the
town.
Whilst in the Air Force he met Teresa Charlsworth of Sheffield
and following their marriage in 1960 they moved to Scarborough.
For a time he worked for himself but is now a foreman with the
'Reg Dennis Plumbing & Heating Company' in Scarborough.
Teresa is the daughter of Clarence Charlsworth and Teresa Cain
both of Sheffield.
They have three children: David, Nicholas and Andrew. Shortly
after David had moved house Colin tried to phone him but couldn't remember his
number. When he asked Teresa what it was, she said that it was "in the book,"
that is the personal directory. Colin looked under McNeill but it wasn't there
so he tried looking under "D" for David but still no luck which prompted the
following conversation.
Colin: "I thought you said his number was in
the book."
Teresa: "It is."
Colin: "Well its not under McNeill or D."
Teresa: "No, its under 'O'"
Colin: "Under 'O', why is that?"
Teresa: "Our Dave!"
Francis Derek McNeill 1941-
Derek McNeill was born on 15 Aug. 1941 and was educated
at the Franciscan Convent School and Melton Modern Boys School. He completed an
apprenticeship with the British United Shoe Machinery Company and shortly after
joined Stanton and Staveley Steel as an Engineer at their Holwell Works just
outside Melton Mowbray.
Whilst at Holwell he joined the works Fire Brigade and joined
the Leicestershire Fire Brigade as a full time fireman in 1965 he transferred to
the newly built Fire Station at Wigston and retired in December 1995 with the
rank of Sub-Officer. He was awarded the long service medal in ???
An enthusiastic sportsman he played football for Holwell Works
and was the Fire Brigade Football representative having also served as Manager
and Coach with the England team and Assistant Manager and Coach with the Great
Britain team during the period 1981 - 1990. He now coaches for the Football
Association.
Married to Gillian Atkinson of Asfordby they have two children:
Karen and Lisa. Gillian who is a hairdresser is the daughter of Ted Atkinson and
May Daley.
Barbara Olive Cufflin (1933-
Barbara Cufflin was born on 27 February 1933. She married
John Clifford Croprey of Lowestoft and they have two children; Ian and
Michael.
Brian Cufflin 1933-
Brian Cufflin was born on 24 October 1933 at Barrow upon
Soar. He is married to Marie Henriette Pauline Giesberts of Horn Holland and
they live in Holland.
Dorothy Cufflin 1943-
Dorothy Cufflin was born at Thurmaston on 24 April 1943.
She is married to John Hubbard of Knighton and they have three sons; Ian, Adrian
and Anthony. Dorothy is the co-writer and researcher of 'The Cufflins' family
history project which was started in 1988 and has liaised with other family
branch researchers in London, Somerset, Cardiff, Yorkshire, Canada and
America.
Keith Cufflin 1946-
Keith Cufflin was born on 18 January 1946 at Thurmaston.
He married Penelope Halliday-Green of Leicester and they have two children;
Wendy and Mary. Keith is a director of his own company.
Heather Cufflin 1949-
Heather Cufflin was born on 5 February 1949 at
Thurmaston. She is married to Paul Raymond Theobold of Leicester and they have
two children; Richard and Donna.
Stuart Dickens 1943-
Stuart Dickens was born at Loughborough on 25 June 1943.
He is married to Janet Twitty of Elschurch Warwickshire and they have two
children; Michael and Peter.
