John was a widower having previously married Elizabeth Emberor on 3 November 1818 at Anstey and they had two children, Ann 1829 and Charles 1830. John and Ann had six children: Elizabeth born 1845; Isaac 1846; James 1848; Catherine who was born in 1850; Edward born in 1855 and Samuel 1859.

Joseph Cufflin 1824-

In 1851 (census) he was living with his parents at 22 Church Lane Anstey and was a Framework Knitter. He Married Ann Baum, who was the daughter of Edward & Hannah Baum, on 9th June 1862 at Anstey. By this time they had three children: Samuel who was born in 1856 and was listed in the 1881 Census as Samuel Cufflin Baum; Hannah (1858) and Richard born in 1861. The children were all baptised together. Other children were: Alice born in 1864; Ann (1867), Joseph (1869), Elizabeth (1872) and John born in 1873.

In 1871 he was unmarried and living as a boarder with Elizabeth Bosworth and her grand children at 72 Moores Yard Anstey where he is described as a Shoe Clicker. It is likely that Elizabeth is his elder sister who married Tom Bosworth in 1843 although the relationship on the census is recorded as a 'boarder'.

Harriet Cufflin 1822-
Harriet Cufflin was born on 30th June 1822 at Anstey the daughter of John Cufflin and Ann Wakeling.

Amelia Cufflin 1824-
Amelia Cufflin was born on 26 December 1824 at Anstey to John Cufflin and Ann Wakeling. In 1851 (census) she was living with her parents at 5 Main Street Anstey working as a Milliner and Dressmaker. She married Henry Moore of Melton Mowbray at St Mary's Parish Church Melton Mowbray on 5th April 1857.
In the records of the Borough of Leicester Vol. VII p 551 Lists of Honorary Freemen, Common Hall held 5.3.1823. The following is recorded:
"...John Moore, Old Club Melton Esq. [but he didn't take up his Freemanship.]"
Could it be that John is the father of Henry? The Old Club in Burton Street was a prestigious gentleman's residence at the height of the hunting era.)

In a letter from her granddaughter, Amelia Moore of Leicester, to William Cufflin Jnr. of Boston Mass. in 1979 she writes. 'Henry Moore was a Freeman of Leicester and at the time of my fathers (John Moore) birth in 1858, they kept a Public House "The Generous Briton" in [King's Street] Melton Mowbray, from there they went to Oakham Rutland where he was Deputy Governor at Oakham Gaol - finally he died in 1885 at the age of 63 as Caretaker of the old prison in Highcross Street Leicester. John had two sisters and a brother; Lucy Ann b.1851, Betsy b.1852 and Joseph b,1860. The family appeared to have had something of a 'nomadic' life as in addition to the movements described above the children were born variously at; Great Bowden, Muston and Melton Mowbray.

Thomas Cufflin 1826-
Thomas Cufflin was born on 25th June 1826 at Anstey the son of John Cufflin and Ann Wakeling. The 1841 census lists Thomas as living at Southside Anstey with his parents whilst in 1851 (census) he was working as a Berlin Glove Manufacturer (probably with his father). In 1891 (census) he was living at St Leonard's Street Leicester working as a Bricklayers Labourer. On his sister Amelia's marriage certificate Henry Moore and his father are described as Bricklayers!

Elizabeth Cufflin 1838-
Elizabeth Cufflin was born c.1838 and in 1841 was living with her parents at Southside Anstey. There appears to be some conflict in the census figures regarding her age, the 1841 is very faint but looks like 5 years (b.1836), the 1851 shows 11 years (b.1840), while the 1861 puts her age at 24 (b.1837)

Charles Emma Thomas Ann F

Charles Davie 1816-1886
Charles was the son of Elizabeth Cufflin and Charles Davie and born at Anstey in 1816. The next we hear of him is in the 1871 census living at Main Street Anstey with his wife Mary of Syston, three children: Catherine who was born in 1850; John who was born in 1852; Harriet who was born in 1854; and two grand children: Albert Toone who was born in 1864; and Evelyn Toone who was born in 1865.

Emma Davie -1870
At this time we have information only as to her death which occurred in 1870.

Thomas Davie -1868
At this time we have information only as to his death which occurred in 1868.

Ann Davie 1838-
Ann Davie was born in 1838 at Anstey. In 1851 (census) she was working as a Framework Knitter at the home of her parents in Church Lane Anstey. The 1861 census indicates that she married Edward G Rushin, a cordwainer of Anstey, and had three sons. She was still living with her father at Church Lane Anstey and was described as a Shoe Binder.

? Davie
It seems likely that Elizabeth and Charles had a daughter who was married to a 'Geary' as the 1851 census lists a Granddaughter Elizabeth Geary aged 12 working as a Framework Knitter at their home in Church Lane Anstey.

(A William Cufflin is recorded as having died in the Union House Leicester on 10 September 1881 at the age of 60 years.)

Henry Cufflin 1823-1916
Henry was born in 1823 and baptised at Thurcaston (Chapelry of Anstey), he was the son of William Cufflin and Christina Hunt. In 1841 (census) Henry was living with his parents at Southside, Ansty working as a Framework Knitter. He married Elizabeth Baum of Anstey (1826-1878) on 27 November 1843 at Anstey Parish Church. Elizabeth was the daughter of Edward Baum, a Carpenter of Cropstone and his wife Hannah Roddle of Thurcaston.
By 1848 they had moved to Leicester and in 1851 (census) were living at 9 Humberstone Gate, they were still there in 1864 when their daughter Frances died at the age of just three weeks. Elizabeth, his wife, died on 1 Jun. 1878 at Great Glen and is buried in the Welford Road Cemetery.
Henry was still living at Great Glen in 1881 (census) together with his daughter Elizabeth and his son James then aged 14 and 12 respectively
In 1891 (census) Henry lived at 61 Clipstone Street with his Daughter Elizabeth and Grandson Vivian, (Elizabeth's son) he was employed as a Warp Loom Hand. He remained at Clipstone Street up to the time of his death on 19th October 1916 at, what would certainly have been in those days, the 'grand old age' of 94. He is buried with his wife Elizabeth, daughter Frances and grandson William Thomas in Welford Road Cemetery, Plot No. A/347.

Sophia Cufflin 1828-
Sophia Cufflin was born on 21 September 1828 the daughter of William Cufflin and Christina Hunt. At the time of the 1841 census she was living at Southside, Ansty with her parents and family.         Sarah Cufflin was born on the 21st of May 1831 and Christened on the 20th of June 1831 at the George Street Primitive Methodist Chapel. She was the second daughter of William Cufflin and Christina Hunt. At the time of the 1841 census she was living at Southside, Ansty. By 1851 (census) she had moved with her family to 23 Friday Street, Leicester and was working as a Seamstress.
By 1871 (census) Selina was married to Thomas Sharman born 1837, of Leicester, had a son Arthur born 1857, and was working as a Cotton Winder, her husband was a Framework Knitter and her son a Framehand.
By 1881 Selina was living with her widowed mother and according to a copy of the census, transcribed by the Church of LDS, had reverted to her maiden name. This is probably a mistake as Cooper-Fardell's 1881 index lists her under her married name of Sharman. Her husband Thomas, at this time was living at 15 St. Margarets Street but there is no record in the census of their son Arthur living in Leicestershire under the name of Sharman, he would have been 24 years old.
At the 1891 Census Selina was boarding with William Grimley, a widower, at 135 Churchgate and was entered as:- Selina Cuffling, Border, married, age 54, Maker of Fancy Hosiery. Meanwhile Thomas was lodging with Charles Welch and is described as a Widower which points to them having separated.
Selina died in 1897 at the age of 60 and Thomas at the age of 61 in 1899.

John Cufflin c.1841-
John Cufflin was 1 year old at the time of the 1841 census and was the son of William Cufflin and Christiana Hunt. In 1851 (census) he was living with his family at 23 Friday Street.
