The Anstey Cufflins

John Cufflin of Anstey 1742-
The earliest of our ancestors with whom we can establish a firm link is John Cufflin of Anstey, who was born in 1742 during the reign of George II. In that same year Handel's Messiah was produced and Sir Robert Walpole resigned as Prime Minister. John married Jane Woolet of Thurlaston on 26 December 1763 following the publication of Banns at Ratby Parish Church. One of the witnesses to the marriage was Tom Cufflin, who was the only one, apart from the Vicar, to sign his own name, both John, Jane and the other witness making 'their mark'.
Jane was born in 1742 and was the daughter of William and Mary Woolet of Thurlaston.
There is very little more that we know about them having traced so far only one son, Richard Cufflin 1764-1820
